If someone's paranoid, they always think someone's out to get them or someone's following them. Because of this psychosis, they don't trust anyone and take extreme measures to avoid danger. Have you read the Series of Unfortunate Events books or seen the movie? Their aunt that lives above Lachrimose Lake could possibly be considered paranoid-- she won't even close doors all the way because she's afraid that using the doorknobs will make them explode. (She trusts "Captain Sham" without much hesitation, however, and that's not very paranoid of her...)
Anyway, some sentences. "His strange behavior in public, especially around clowns, led people to believe that paranoia was his ailment." or "Upon realizing the shadow was that of a coat on the coat-rack, and not a stranger in her house, she felt silly at her paranoia."
