From the description and Gangster films are certainly not aviation magazines or textbooks, it sounds lilke a B-25, B-26, or A-26 (the designation A for assault or attack w3as applied to some light-duty bombers) All of these were twin-engined. The B-24 Liberator was a Four Motor Bomber and did have the V-tail you mention, a trademark of Consolidated or Convair. (same company). Original designs for the B-36 also included a V-tail but these did not see the light of day. all production (Peacemakers) had a conventionalk single rudder tail. This movie was made in 1949. I thought it was during the war, which would limit the use of some of those bomers mentioed above. I can't find an image from the movie to check it out. Another possibility is a 2-engine trainer or bomber-trainer such as the AT-11 or C-45. The bomber/navigator trainer had a glas nose but it was very small aircraft compared to the B-25 bomber.
