Is asura a demon

From the standpoint that in the Hindu religion, the Asura were a group of deities who constantly lusted after power who are sometimes considered evil and materialistic, then yes they could be a form demon. However, in their native context, they are merely the group of deities that are competing with the Devas for power over all creation.
