Why do men hit their wives?

There are various reasons, but the most common is a man (or woman) can be brought up in an abusive family and learn the habits of abuse be it verbal or physical or both. In some instances men/women will become jaded in life because they don't feel they may be where they feel they should be as far as money, fame, fortune and a good job. Some people can have it all such as a great family bringing them up and fairly good luck out in the world and just be plain mean to the bone. Scientists are studying the human habits of abusers to find out what malfunction of the brain causes an abuser to do what he/she does (just like criminals.) Abusers are about control. Unlike many think (because most of us have little sympathy for abusers) they are like a run away locomotive that can't stop the bad habits, and especially men will refuse counseling for their problems. To men it's a weakness, yet they actually feel weak when they abuse and hate themselves for it, but can't stop. That's why many men will promise to never harm their spouse or children again, but always do. Abusers can love, but don't know how to love normally. In order to survive they need total control and that's why they usually are nice to the person they meet (almost too nice at times) generous, funny, and the victim doesn't even see it coming. The next step is either the abuser convinces his/her victim to live with them or get married and slowly they isolate their victim from their family and friends and then the abuser has 100% control. Even though they may not know it they are artful at manipulation and weakening the mental state of their victim so the victim feels they must have done something wrong to deserve it; is too fearful of the abuser or has low self esteem and is too embarrassed to tell anyone. There are more and more laws being passed to protect both men and women and also Abused Women's Centers for victims to escape too. There are programs for females/males that are victims of abuse as well as children. The number is as close as your Mental Health Clinic.
