Why were Japanese Americans held in internment camps and?

Japanese Americans were held in internment camps during World War II due to widespread fears and suspicions following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The U.S. government, driven by racial prejudice and national security concerns, viewed Japanese Americans as potential spies or saboteurs despite the lack of evidence. This led to the forced relocation and incarceration of around 120,000 individuals, two-thirds of whom were U.S. citizens, in camps across the country.
