One view: A woman is normally the most fertile any where from a day to a week after her period
Another view: Sorry but the above answer is incorrect. A woman with a 28 day cycle would usually ovulate around day 12-14 of her cycle. If I recall correctly, sperm can live for 7 days in the womb/fallopian tubes. Given that fertilisation takes place when the egg meets the sperm, it stands to reason that a woman is most fertile around the time that she ovulates, ie usually in the middle of a 28 day cycle. That is not to say that it is "safe" to have unprotected sex outside of this timeframe as every woman's cycle is different, some may ovulate earlier, others later.
