Why are men attracted to firearms?

It had been argued that the firearm is a phallic symbol because it is hard and shoots from a cylindrical barrel, and that men who prefer the biggest guns are compensating for sexual inadequacy. In my case, I doubt it. I simply appreciate the mechanical aspects of firearms and enjoy shooting them.
