F--K (place a UC where the dashes are) is a swear Word, a cuss, a strong exclamatory Word that is used in many ways and with many different purposes:

  • most often refers to sex. Ex: I f--ked my girlfriend, we made sweet love together.
  • An angry exclamation. Ex:What the F--k!? or to tweeters, WTF!?
  • A happy exclamation. Ex: I just won the Lotto!?Get the F--ck out!
  • If something is broken. Ex: My computer has been F--ked up ever since I spilled water all over it.
  • Telling someone to go away. Ex: F--ck you, I don't want to hear about it!
  • As an adjective when you are angry/feel strongly about something. Ex: she was acting like a F--kin police officer the way she bossed us around.
  • ... and many other ways. It is a very old and very versatile Word.

F--K would seem to come from the German Word, ficken, meaning to strike.

A related Word is the Middle Dutch, focken, which means much the same.

The same Word in French is "foutre", so it seems there is a common root somewhere, perhaps in the Latin Word, futuere, or the Latin Word Facere which means to make or do.

Others have claimed it is a corruption of the Word "fecund", which means fruitful.

There are some who claim it stands for "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge", but this is a myth.

The Word it is certainly not used in polite conversation. It is the slang term for having sex, and is considered very vulgar.

The Word F*CK has been around since the 15th century. According to the alt.usage.English FAQ:

The Random House HistoricalDictionary of American Slang (Random House, 1994, ISBN 0-394-54427-7) cites Middle Dutch fokken = "to thrust, copulate with"; Norwegian dialect fukka = "to copulate"; and Swedish dialect focka = "to strike, push, copulate" and fock = "penis".
