Prices varied., Mattel patented the chatty-ring assembly with a sort of gravity cord record-player ( not a tape player) in the body of the doll. The process was expanded to stuffed animals such as Bugs Bunny and a puppet based on Mr. Ed the talking horse. They were quite expensive for the times. Chatty Cathy had interchangeable discs or record- that could be changed for different play settings- there were even foreign language variants= rumors there was a Russian disc!
