A poll conducted in 2007 by GlobeScan revealed that 24% of Americans favoured an immediate withdrawl of US forces from Iraq and 37% favoured a withdrawl on a one-year timetable. Only 32% favoured a continued US presence in Iraq. Similar results were obtained in CNN polls in 2007 and 2008.

A study of polls estimating the popularity of the Iraq War among Americans shows that since late 2006 shows that since that time between 60% to 67% of Americans opposed the war. The results fluctuate, but always within that range. Prior to 2006, the war was more popular, although more than 50% of Americans have opposed it since as long ago as 2003.

Between 2007 and 2009, between 60% and 65% of Americans said the War was not worth fighting, according to an ABC poll.
