What is the coflict in eldest?

There are two main issues in Eldest: laughing soldiers and Murtahg. Laughing soldiers refers to members of Galbatorix's army that cannot feel pain, laughing at every injury and fighting only until they are decapitated. Murtahg, being the son of Morzan, proves very useful to Galbatorix and becomes corrupted by the evil king, becoming a dragon rider in his service and at the same time the greatest threat to Eragon's quest.
