For Sikhs, Diwali is a particularly important festival because it coincides with which Bandi Chhor Divas, a day that celebrates the release of the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind and 52 other hindu kings with him, in October 1619. The Guru's return was celebrated with the lighting of hundreds of lamps at the Golden Temple.
