What is a witch bottle?

A witch bottle is a form of protection spell.

Items of protection:

broken bits of mirror - to send the misfortune back to the originator.

nails, pins and other sharp objects - to ward off misfortune

sharp blades of knives - to"cut"the misfortune

vinegar - to make the place "sour"or "unpalatable" to misfortune.

Items of what/who is being protected.

personal items (hair) from all living beings (including pets) in a house hold

bits of dirt from the property

bits of material from the buildings

The whole thing is assembled under the correct phase and house of the moon, blessed by the practitioner, elementals and deities invoked and then buried in the correct place.
