Which country is the Shinto religious festival shogatsu matsuri celebrated to welcome in the new year?

It happens in Japan...you know, the native place for the religion of Shinto. It is celebrated over a three day period at the beginning of the New Year to welcome it in. One of the things to do is purify yourself and your house to clean yourself of any pollution for the new year.
