How does destruction of wetlands cause water pollution?

Extreme environmentalists will hurt their cause by creating unreal pollution issues. There certainly are many, very valid, problems with pollution, including the rising use of plastic bottles and chemicals we use every day.

Pollution is a serious problem.
Erosion can be man induced and can be a problem.

When the two are added the issue become foolishness as pollution is not a cause of erosion. This is a sad political use of the term pollution.
