This was delivered, the ship then headed for operations in the Philipines but was torpedoed 4 days later without sending an s.o.s.,3 day's passed before Pearl noticed it was missing, 800 men managed to abandon ship and spent 84 hours in the water facing thirst, fatigue and worst of all, sharks.
