Are iPod nanos waterproof

I have a iPod nano 5th generation and it went through the wash. I didn't turn it on and immediately put it in a bag of rice. 3 weeks later I took it out and it worked fine but there were some blotches on the screen. If you leave it in water for a long time or turn it on it will kill the iPod. so the answer is not really but if you leave it in rice for a couple of weeks you are fine.
