Why was Caligula's name little boots?

Caligula means "little boot" in Latin. It is actually a nickname, that Caligula hated. His proper name was Gaius. He received the nickname from his father's soldiers because as a toddler, his mother would dress him in a mini military uniform. The name came from the "caliga" or military boot.
