Pheasants (virtually all varieties) originate in Asia. They were brought into the US to the Wilamett Valley in the 1880's. They were brought to the UK very early (by Marco Polo?), which is when it became the "food of Kings" as they were raised by the huntsmen employed by the monarchy.
