How does one identify the car tire sizes?

Most tires are labeled on their sides. In order to correctly identify the size of the tires on one's car, one must look at the side of the tire. Here there will be a code starting with one or two letters, followed by a series of numbers and backslashes. This code tells the type, tread width, aspect ratio, and rim size.
