He really wasn't "inspired " to paint. He was an illegimate son of a wealthy man so was born with this "stain" on him. At 16 his father calls in a favor with a Florence artist and he gets an apprenticeship in the workshop. It is here he begins to develop and learn is art which seems to come naturally. At 20 his apprenticeship is finished, but he stays on with the workshop and is able to join the guild.
