How did George Washington take care of his soldiers?

Washington was honest and humble when it came to him and his soldiers. He even had soldiers that he treated like sons. His soldiers adored him and he would sometimes sleep in tents just like all of the other soldiers. When he became Commander in Chief of the Continental Army he refused to work for pay.
