Farmers have many things to be careful of. First there is are physical dangers. Tractors are dangerous. They can turn over on the driver or the driver can fall off. People lose limbs in cornpickers. Livestock are dangerous. Bulls attack sometimes. Sows with pigs attack if they think the pigs are threatened. Cows kick. Milk has to be cooled properly. Farmers can fall out their lofts. Lightning can kill and start fires. Ponds and well have their own hazards. There are diseases that can wipe out a chicken flock, as can foxes. There are diseases that kill cattle and sheep. Animals can steal eggs. Plant diseases, insects , flooding and drought can diminish a crop. Rains can spoil a harvest. Then there are market fluctuations. Bumper crops can cut prices below profit margins. The farmer must guess whether it is better to plant corn or soy beans or whatever. Timing of planting is important. He has to be careful about kinds and number of applications of fertilizer. He has to know the tax laws, now the details on farm subsidies and incentives.
