For the lynx, the answer is obvious. It gets fed.

For the rabbit, its not so obvious. It comes down to survival of the fittest.

Rabbits reproduce quite quickly. The lynx actually helps the species by eating the slower, sicker, older rabbits first.

This allows stronger genetics to stay in the rabbits gene pool.
