Are hamsters a rat

They are rodents, and therefore belong to the same Order of mammals, but they have their own separate families, one is in the hamster and vole family, the other in the 'True' Rat/Mouse family. The Order Rodentia contains many families besides hamsters and rats, like are mice, squirrels, capybaras, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits, chipmunks, groundhogs, beavers, jerboas, porcupines, chinchillas, etc. There are over 4000 types of rodents.
