Babies are born with wrinkled skin primarily because they spend a significant amount of time in the amniotic fluid during pregnancy. This fluid helps protect the baby but can also lead to the development of loose, wrinkled skin as the baby’s body adapts to the environment outside the womb. Additionally, the wrinkling allows for easier movements as the baby grows and their body fills out after birth. Over time, as the baby gains weight and the skin adjusts, the wrinkles diminish.
