Ask your parents if you can invite three special friends (or one, but not two) to some sort of special outing, depending on your preferences and what's available in the area: a day in the city with a lunch at a nice restaurant, a rental boat on the lake and a picnic on the other side, dinner and a movie downtown, tickets to a sporting event. Let your friends know that it's for your birthday and that you'd prefer a small gathering of good companions over a big party.
The reason to stick to an even number is that if there are three, it so easily divides into two and one, and no one wants to be the odd one out.
If you don't have close friends that you'd like to do this with, or if you have too many to pick three, what if you had the same outing with your own family?
