Where does the last name verduzco come from?

This last name is common in Mexico...A lot of people say it originated in Spain but I have currently heard it also comes from Italy.

My Grandfather was From Ireland and His last name was Verduzco He would also tell us stories that the Verduzco Family was one if the first families in La Paz Baja California Mexico.
