Where do the pods grow on a cacao tree?

Cacao pods grow directly on the trunk and larger branches of the cacao tree (Theobroma cacao). This phenomenon is known as "cauliflory," where flowers and fruit develop from the woody parts of the plant rather than from the tips of branches. Each pod contains cacao beans surrounded by a sweet, sticky pulp, which is harvested for chocolate production.
