Yes Crucifixion was a roman punishment inflicted on slaves,rebels and non Romans. its technique was varied, including nails, ropes or a combination of both. It was meant to be a spectacle of obscenity.

Crucifixon was invented in earlier times. Cathage was known to practise it and was probably adopted by the Romans from them.
