Brahman were the priests or scholars of India.
Kshatriya were the warriors, or landowners of India. Also rulers.
Vaishya were the merchants and traders of India.
Shudras were the common folk, the artisans, crafters, agriculturalists and peasants.
Harijan are removed from the Caste System but were once known as untouchables. they did the dirty work for India and weren't allowed to be touched.
In India, you could not change your caste or marry outside of your caste within your life, but if you did your job and worked hard, you would be reincarnated through your faith in a better, higher up caste.
Brahmens are the head, Kshatriya the arms, Vaishya the stomach, Shudras the legs and Harijan the "nether" region.
