How is rotating patients effective against bedsores?

A given patient would create a particular pattern of wear or lumpiness in a particular mattress. A different patient moved to that mattress would not fit into the same pattern, hence, the new patient would not experience pressure on the same locations as he or she did lying on the previous mattress.
