What is a coteliden?

A coteliden, also known as a cotyledon, is a part of a seed that serves as an early source of energy for the developing plant embryo. It is the first leaf or leaves to emerge from the seed during germination and plays a crucial role in photosynthesis until the plant can produce its own food. Cotyledons can be classified into two types: monocotyledons (one cotyledon) and dicotyledons (two cotyledons), which help in identifying plant species.
