What is the definition of the word country?

As a noun, country can indicate a specific nation or territory OR the more rural portions of that territory. You can be in the country of Australia, but if you stay in Melbourne the whole time, you're not exactly out in the country.

As an adjective, it means having rural characteristics, such as a country road or Country Music.
