I love this piece. The way it’s written... it’s dark ... with a menacing elan. It’s subtle... spare and understated.

Alluding to ideas as opposed to spelling them out.

The way I read it... and this is only my own interpretation... is that both the witch and Rapunzel are the same person - a fragmented or polarised personality.

A second conclusion .. ?

I wondered if it alluded to a kind of Stockholm Syndrome where Rapunzels perception had declined from “empathy toward her captor“ ... to a state of fused identity... in which she no longer knew where she ended and the witch began.
