What is artificial grass made out of?

According to this site www.metrograss.com (I have one of their brochures) they use an artificial grass made from a polyethylene and polypropylene blend. The infill is a patented mixture of graded silica and ground rubber.

They use it for lawns, landscaping, pet facilities, putting greens, etc.
