Latin and Greek are used to classify organisms due to the following reasons
- since they are 'dead' languages, they are not subject to evolution, and hence are free from colloquialisms, or regional variations.
- there is also, the matter of convention, because since the very beginning of scientific nomenclature, Latin and Greek names were the language of choice, mainly due to the fact that Classical language was the Lingua franca for the European intelligentsia.
