When was the bullet train's first journey?

The first Japanese Bullet Train was put into public service in 1964. It had top speeds of 200 kilometers per hour and was the first of its kind.

The Japanese had been working on the model for a long time, (since 1933) but all progress was put on hold due to the start of World War 2.
