Why were African slaves used to replace Native American laborers?

The Natives had issues about working land that had once belonged to them, for other people, and slavery was a foreign concept to them. By contrast, African tribes had practiced slavery, and once African slaves were in a strange land with no way home, they saw few other choices for themselves.
