What was the political view of the New England colonies?

The New England colonies were a group of English colonies which included the northwest region of the States (what is now Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island). It is possible that these colonies could have had small groups of pilgrims from Germany, Franch, and Portugal.
