Is the 2000 neon engine a non interference engine?

According to service manuals, the 2.0L SOHC engines are interference engines, but the vlaves wont hit one another (or hit the pistons) until the upper RPM ranges. If your timing belt is off a tooth, you'll notice it by a severe lack of performance across the RPM band.
