What is the life cycle of arcturus?

Arcturus is a supergiant nearing the end of its life. In the very near future - cosmologically speaking - it will become a supernova, brightening brilliantly for a few days or weeks, then fading until it vanishes and we will see it no more. After some years, however, a new dwarf star will form out of its core, but this will only be noticable to astronomers.
