I've read the book myself. It seems that India is portrayed as a place with vast areas tamed by the British, but with other scattered regions full of wild landscapes. Verne also portrays many of the Hindus who were not in areas fully under British rule as fanatics who conduct murders and human sacrifices, which is actually not the case.
