When was the us fears about the spread of communism increased?

For the west it was right as WW2 ended, the allies and the soviets didn't trust each other which led to the Berlin Wall being erected, then in the late 40's & 50's for america especially started the eradication of any communist or socialist and extreme promotion of capitalism.
