Jack Dempsey, the American heavyweight boxing champion, faced several notable opponents during his career. His most famous bouts included fights against Georges Carpentier, whom he defeated in 1921, and Luis Firpo in 1923, where Dempsey was famously knocked out of the ring but managed to win. He also fought Gene Tunney twice, losing to him in their first match in 1926 and avenging that loss in a controversial rematch in 1927. Other opponents included Tommy Gibbons and Bill Brennan.
