How do you change an alternator on a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan SE?

I have a 1993 Dodge grand caravan, and have taken the alternator off of the bracket, but it will not fit down the back of the motorand under the fire wall. I have tried to remove the alternator bracket , but it looks as though it is trapped behind the tensioner pulley. I don't see how to remove the pulley bracket and don't know if this will work at all. What a crazy design! I hope someone out there can help.
