Dirk Hartog traveled to Australia in 1616 as part of a Dutch expedition. He is credited with being the first European to set foot on Australian soil, landing on the western coast at what is now known as Shark Bay in Western Australia. Hartog's journey aimed to explore the unknown southern land and expand trade routes for the Dutch East India Company. His landing marked a significant moment in the early European exploration of Australia.
