Poets generally capitalize for a variety of reasons depending on the poet and time-period. The most common reason would be for emphasis or importance of the subject or reference. For example, Puritan writers often capitalized Words that are generally not capitalized in common writing, such as Hope, Faith and Sovereignty, the latter referring to God and therefore receiving a capital in reverence.
