Mine did on a Dodge pickup. I don't recommend going by this, as it "will" end up burning out the fuel pump. If you are not replacing it due to money. Best/safest way to know the fuel level is to...

1. fill the car

2. reset the tripometer

3. drive normally, day trips to work etc. until you reach 100miles

4. refill to find out how much fuel you have used.

5. Look up the fuel capacity of your vehicle, with this you can calculate your maximum miles per tank.

6. SO you don't damage your car/run out of fuel, calculate 80%+/- of max miles as the point to refill. I use 80% because in the summer or being stuck in traffic will use up more fuel. I use a round number like 250miles because it is easier to remember.

7. You will have reset your tripometer at each refill to keep track of the miles.
