The oldest malware vector is often considered to be the "Creeper" program, created in the early 1970s. It was an experimental self-replicating program that infected mainframes running the TENEX operating system, displaying the message "I'M THE CREEPER: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN!" While it wasn't malicious in the way modern malware is, it laid the groundwork for future malware development. The first true computer virus, known as "Elk Cloner," emerged in 1982 and spread via floppy disks.
